Kaapsehoop Horse Trails is a well-known and serene mountain getaway. As you follow the winding 7km forest track from the quaint historic gold mining village of Kaapsehoop through the Berlin Forest, you will find your shoulders lightening, your eyes being drawn to the horizon and your lungs drawing in the fresh pine-scented air.
Established in 1994 by equine legend and gifted horseman, Christo Germishuys, this unique setting with its gorgeous vistas and scenery, offers a rustic environment where one can pause and soak in the vistas, blue skies and quietude.
Here you will find yourself amongst the horses, trees, wildflowers, birds and insects. You will be enticed with details everywhere, put together from any old piece, from old rusted tin cups, to found pieces of wood, to iron pieces, to all given a new life as artistic decorative pieces.
And furthermore enjoy long conversations and camp fire stories into the night or just the silence gained from bright stars shining down on you. Then wake up in the morning to the stories of the twittering birds, a cup of coffee, a horse ride, a walk or just relaxing, gazing across the soothing views.
We have 3 distinctly unique houses all with their own histories and stories. All the houses are equipped with basic food preparation and cooking facilities, as well as a braai area for self-catering. Alternatively you can enjoy a meal at the on-site Kay’s Cafe or venture into the village of Kaapsehoop where you’ll find various restaurants.
Although we do not have an official camp site, there are various areas where one can pitch a tent or park a camper or caravan. Ablution is availability next to the office.
Every now and again, we need to pack a bag and venture out, and fill our souls with simplicity and beauty. In doing so we also fill our bags with discovery, or rediscovery, and as a result, savour precious life. So pack your bags and come stay with us.
