This was the Sociably Family’s first visit to the River Stables picnic spot. We were all excited about what we might find here, and just as we had hoped, our expectations were surpassed when we arrived.
This was the Sociably Family’s first visit to the River Stables picnic spot. We were all excited about what we might find here, and just as we had hoped, our expectations were surpassed when we arrived.
With Autumn in full swing, the road leading in was vibrantly filled with shades of crimson, orange, yellow and gold. Even the sun greeted us as we approached the entrance. It was as if mother nature was welcoming us with her own promise of a beautiful day ahead.
You’ve got to love that feeling when nature slaps you right in the face. The gulp of fresh air. The scent of the indigenous forest. The way that the sun warms your skin, and the breeze cools it down again. The natural white noise offered by the trees swaying in the wind and the river flowing through the valley. And in this case, even the rush of seeking shelter for your head every time the Lowveld Chestnuts rain down.
This is exactly what we found at the River Stables picnic spot. There was so much here to see. So much tranquillity to be found. Amazing attention is paid to detail here, which makes this picnic spot feel like a home away from home, nestled in the heart of nature.
We were pleasantly surprised when we were informed by the caretaker that the River Stables offers horse-interaction, which meant that the whole family was allowed to pet the horses, including the lively little pony! Between the adults and the children, it is still unclear who enjoyed the pony more. This little pony had everyone wrapped around its tiny, fluffy little ankle.
We spent our day fishing, exploring, swimming, and unwinding. We spent our day bonding over burgers. We spent our day in bliss, growing together as a family.
The whole Sociably family will agree that this picnic spot will see us again soon.
Until then, we will treasure the sweet memories of camaraderie, laughter and relaxation we made here, and we look forward to our next visit with excited anticipation.

A Family Day Away
A Family Day Away
The sky was grey.
The air was cool.
“Remember to pack your umbrella”, said the weatherman…
Yes, dear friends, the promise of rain hung thick in the air.
Yet there we all were… boots packed and ready to be on our way, come what may.
The whole Sociably family was ready for a day away, adventuring in the Lowveld!
Our adventure destination of the day?
River Stables, Sabie.
