The Sociably team recently hosted their highly anticipated Groove & Games Night event that brought together a diverse group of social club individuals for an exhilarating evening of fun and games at Woodstock 69, in Nelspruit.
Spirits were running high as our five teams, each consisting of six enthusiastic participants, started arriving to compete in a range of entertaining games. As the event kicked off, the room was charged with an electric energy.
A quick welcome speech and a big thank you to the sponsors set the stage for our first game, a good old-fashioned round of Noot vir Noot led by Woodstock 69 owner Greg himself. Our five teams were ready, eagerly faced off against their competitors, aiming to outshine them.
The judges thought they had a foolproof plan, providing each table with a buzzer to keep track of the teams’ readiness to answer the musical questions. The plan however slightly backfired when the teams were so excited to be playing that the loud cheering drowned out most of the sounds coming from their buzzers. Teams had to resort to waving their buzzers in the air like maniacs to ensure they were spotted by the judges. This extra level of exuberance made this game even more fun for everyone involved.
Once the first game was complete, our club members were famished. They had been playing hard, and their bodies were craving nourishment. But they didn’t have to wait long. The smell of delicious food wafted through the air when the waiters brought out the meals. There were two options for dinner: a mouthwatering vegetarian spring roll and samosa meal, or a delectable chicken burger. To drink, there was a selection of soft drinks, wines and beer. Dinner was a symphony of flavours, and the perfect way to refuel for the next game.
If you’re a fan of The Big Bang Theory, then you’re probably familiar with Sheldon Cooper’s love of flags. That love was brought to life with the next game, Sociably’s own Fun with Flags game! In this game, we tested the teams’ knowledge of flags from all over the world. Pairing national animals like the unicorn and birth places of icons like Freddie Mercury with their countries’ flags, proved to be a challenging but fun way to learn about the world.
Next up was a game of 30 Seconds. This fast-paced thinking game ensured that everyone stayed on their toes. Teams took turns competing, and the excitement was palpable as each team tried to outdo the next.
To show our love for the Lowveld, we ended the competition with a local general knowledge game. In this individual round, everyone had the chance to shout their name and show off their Lowveld knowledge. It was a chance for us to celebrate our shared love of this beautiful region and learn a few new things along the way.
Throughout the event, teams fought hard for victory, with most games keeping the club members on the edge of their seats. The second-place teams found themselves locked in a fierce dead heat, requiring a creative solution to break the tie. The judges, keen on keeping the event lively and infused with humour, decided on a five-minute game called “BIG BUCKS”. This unexpected twist not only added an element of amusement but also showcased the flexibility and adaptability of the Sociably team.
The best highlight of the Groove & Games event however, was the generous sponsorship from local businesses and individuals within our community. Prizes for the winners were allotted by these sponsors, exemplifying the supportive nature of our surroundings. The local businesses’ contribution not only enriched the event but also highlighted the collaborative efforts that make such community gatherings possible.
Here is a list of our wonderful sponsors:
Looking at our event feedback forms, it is clear that the Groove & Games event was an absolute success, fostering a sense of camaraderie, healthy competition and pure enjoyment among all participants. The evening showcased the diverse talents, quick thinking and sheer enthusiasm of the teams vying for victory.
The night served as a reminder of the power of teamwork, the joy of friendly competition and the strength of local bonds. It was an experience that brought individuals and the surrounding community together, creating lasting memories and fostering a sense of unity.
