Exploring another Sociably gem in the Lowveld ♥

With the scent of Kokiville-grown Freesias in my nose, I am sitting here in my cozy home, writing a blog that I have been looking forward to writing for quite some time.

The blog about KOKIVILLE HOMESTEAD.

When I first heard about Kokiville, images of off-grid living streamed to mind. I envisioned how much fun I could have, basically living AND WORKING smack bang in the middle of the Lowveld bush. A place where Eskom is not a thing. A place where you get to experience living life in a revamped bus or a shipping container. A place where you can forage your food and still do a mouthwatering cook up in a well-equipped kitchen. A place where indoor embraces outdoor with open arms, where you can sleep in luxury and wake-up with a wall-to-wall and ceiling-to-floor view of nature. No hustle. No bustle. Just you, your laptop and nature…

I was embarking on a WORKATION at KOKIVILLE! And here is what I found:

Standing out at Kokiville is the unique and comfortable accommodation. Kokiville boasts two shipping containers and a 1970’s school bus that was converted into comfortable living spaces. With a Teepee and a Treehouse on the way, guests are bound to start planning their next stay the moment they depart from their first. Featured in this blog is one of the Boxes, a tiny yet spacious shipping container with cozy furnishings that reflect comfort and convenience. Guests can marvel at the clever design and attention to detail, which proves that sustainable living can be both practical and stylish. Staying in this converted shipping container offers a truly unique and eco-friendly experience.

Birdwatchers unite! This past weekend Kokiville hosted a Bird Watching event during which 3 new species were spotted, putting them on a total of 169 different bird species recorded to date. Besides the wonderful diverse birdlife, taking a walk on the winding roads of the Snail trail is sure to give you some magical encounters with nature. As you traverse on this trail, you will encounter a wide variety of indigenous plant species (some of which feature in our medicinal plants blog) and maybe even catch a glimpse of other wildlife. This peaceful trail offers the perfect opportunity for you to reconnect with nature and find ample moments of tranquility.

In addition to its natural splendors, Kokiville Homestead is a shining example of self-sustainable off grid living. The implementation of renewable energy sources, such as solar panels, ensures that the homestead functions independently from the grid, greatly minimizing its impact on the environment. At Kokiville Homestead, guests can learn about these sustainable practices and even participate in workshops to gain insight into living more harmoniously with nature.

At Kokiville I found genuine hospitality that made me feel like I was a part of the family. I was warmly welcomed by visionaries and owners, Janine and Gavin. Throughout my stay, it was clear that this power couple works hard to create a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere for their guests. Their passion for sharing their vision with others is enough to get anyone excited about building a more sustainable lifestyle.

Kokiville Homestead is more than just a place to stay. It is a sanctuary where warm hosts embrace you, luxury combines with sustainability, and the wonders of nature captivate your senses. Whether you seek a ‘’workation’’ to refocus or just some relaxation, this self-sustaining off-grid homestead offers an immersive experience that is sure to rejuvenate your mind, body, and soul.

We love the gems of the Lowveld ♥
