Skyway Trails boasts Mpumalanga's longest Aerial Cable Trail and offers visitors a spectacular view of one of the last natural forested valleys on the Sabie River. The 1.2km trail is split up into 8 ziplines, 10 platforms, and takes about 2.5 hours to complete.
In the Lowveld, you will find many thrilling adventures for couples to embark on. In fact, there is a very long list of activities for all thrill-seekers to indulge in. And being a local means that we never have to travel far.
On a recent adventure date, we were eager to try something new. We headed over to Hazyview, the town often referred to as the Adventure Centre of the Lowveld.
Hazyview attracts visitors from all over South Africa, and the world, to experience the town’s many adrenaline-pumping activities. From hot air ballooning and elephant rides to horse riding and river rafting, there is an exciting adventure activity for everyone to be found.
During this thrill-seeking adventure date, we embarked on an afternoon, speeding over treetops with the guides from Skyway Trails.

Arriving at the offices of Skyway Trails, conveniently located atPerry’s Bridge Trading Post, we were warmly welcomed by the staff, after which our guides skilfully helped us gear up for the occasion. The excitement really kicked in once we were fully suited up with our Helmets, Gloves, Lanyards, Carabiners, Pulleys, and Trolleys. Feeling equipped to climb Mount Everest, we made our way over a dedicated practice area.
Now, if the only kind of zipline you have ever tried before, is one running over a swimming pool, just know, this is nothing like that. Be prepared to be slightly embarrassed during your practice round, or follow these very helpful tips to look like a pro:
Do not hold on to the cable when the guide says, “let go”. This will only result in you hanging like an orangutang at the top of the line.
Do not grip the line with full force nearing the end when the guide motions for you to stop. You will be yanked back to a stillstand at the speed of lightning and possibly lose an arm.
I must admit that the practice round made me somewhat nervous for the real deal, but there we were, hopping on for complimentary transport to the aerial cable trail, which is a short 10-minute drive away from the office.
I was relieved to find that 7 out of 8 ziplines have braking systems, which gave me the opportunity to practice my braking skills before I really needed them. After some encouraging words from my other half, it was go-time (and “let go” time).
As I sped down the first cable way, reminding myself to breathe, I couldn’t help but feel a rush of adrenaline mingled with excitement creeping up from the pit of my stomach. My initial fear fast subsided as I embraced the wind in my face and absorbed the breathtaking views of the natural vegetation spread out before me and below me, soothing my soul every second of the way.
From one platform to the next, we watched the scenery of the forest change, until we reached the final cable, where I managed to brake like I pro.
Our adventure date came to and end, leaving us feeling fulfilled for the day.
The beauty of an adventure date lies not only in the exhilarating activity you are embarking on together, but also in the opportunity it provides to encourage and support one another. It allows us to step outside of our comfort zone and face challenges together. Along the way, you are likely to encounter unexpected twists, funny and embarrassing mishaps, and moments filled with pure joy. Skyway Trails is the perfect place for partners to create adventure-filled memories and experience personal growth together.
We absolutely love what the Lowveld has to offer ♥
