A unique Sociably Sleepover

Have you ever pictured yourself living in a tree? Imagine spending your time lounging around like a leopard with a satisfied appetite. Or even just embracing your inner Tarzan and Jane spending time tucked away in a jungle, in the middle of nowhere.

Imagine a place deeply immersed in nature. A place where the sun’s final notes linger in the air while the moon’s overture begins, creating a seamless transition between the symphonies of day and night.

If you can envision such a place then you must read on, because as Lowvelders, we have unique places just like that on our doorstep. In fact, during a recent adventure, the Sociably team went completely off grid to enjoy a night away in a Tarzan-style family treehouse.

We embarked on a sleepover at The Fig Tree House and here is what we found:

The Fig Tree House, built in a giant wild fig tree, is situated between Nelspruit and Malelane in the Crocodile Gorge Conservancy which allows for a sense of seclusion. The drive into the conservancy is a scenic one and you are almost guaranteed to spot some wildlife on your way. The spectacular location allows for a connection with the raw, untamed beauty of the subtropical Lowveld region.

One of the standout features of the Fig Tree House is its clever integration of living space into the tree and surrounding granite boulders. The house seamlessly incorporates these natural formations, creating a harmonious blend of architecture and the rugged landscape. The innovative design not only enhances the visual appeal of the treehouse but also provides cozy and intimate spaces for guests.

Contrary to what one might expect, the Fig Tree House doesn’t compromise on comfort. Despite being surrounded by untamed nature, guests can enjoy modern comforts such as a comfortable bed. If you were questioning the possibility of a restful night in a treehouse, let Sociably reassure you that having no electricity in the sleeping area ensures that there are not many bugs around by the time you crawl into bed. In fact, during our visit, most of the team decided to chuck the mosquito nets and embrace the nightlife with little to no disturbances from bugs at all.

Another alluring feature of the Fig Tree House is the outdoor shower. Imagine standing under a cascading waterfall of warm water, feeling the refreshing spray on your skin as you look out onto the lush greenery. This unique shower experience is both invigorating and rejuvenating, allowing guests to truly connect with nature’s elements while enjoying a moment of blissful solitude.

For the meditative fisherman, just 600m from the treehouse, you can cast your line into the still waters of the dam. Surrounded by the serene ambience of nature, you can bask in the glow of the setting sun and perhaps reel in a catch to add another splash of excitement to your day.

At the Fig Tree House, the experiences continue even after the sun has set. The boma area provides the perfect setting for evening relaxation. Sit around a crackling fire, listen to captivating stories, and embrace the magical atmosphere created by the lush bush and its nocturnal residents. From the boma area guests have the opportunity to climb up a ladder leading to the top of a granite boulder, allowing guests to marvel at the vast unobstructed view of the night sky.

The Fig Tree House offers a unique and unforgettable experience for those seeking to immerse themselves in the wonders of nature. From its clever style and layout to the comfort it provides in the heart of the Lowveld Bush, this treehouse is truly a hidden gem. Spending a night here promises to be nothing short of magical.
