Masks, Mystery, and the Murder of Marshall Inglewood
Masks, Mystery, and the Murder of Marshall Inglewood
Another successful Sociably Games Night!
In the lavish mansion of Governor Marshall Inglewood, based in the heart of Louisiana’s vibrant city of New Orleans, a Mardi Gras masquerade party took place. Guests arrived with the intention of enjoying an elegant evening, feasting, dancing and drinking alongside the elites of New Orleans. However, the night took an unexpected turn when the power went out and a murder took place, leaving guests entangled in a web of dastardly deeds and unsavory scandal…
This was the scene, about to play out at Sociably’s latest murder mystery event, hosted for members of the Social Club at the Blue Gate, Nelspruit. With each guest assigned a unique character sheet, filled with gossip and hidden objectives, the evening promised intrigue, suspense, and the thrilling challenge of solving a murder.
Guests were welcomed with a delicious glass of sangria and directed to the dinner table where they had the opportunity to choose a role from the pre-determined list of interesting characters available to play. Once the roles were assigned, and time was allowed for everyone to read through their character sheets, the first phase of the game was in full swing. This phase of the game was designated to gossip, and with their roles in hand, guests immersed themselves in their characters. Engaging in lively conversations and strategic plotting, they sought to advance their own objectives, all the while maintaining their best versions of a New Orleans accent. As the laughter rolled, guests refilled on sangrias and continued their gossiping at the dinner table where they sat down to a smorgasbord of pizzas and salads.
Tension mounted as fate took a turn during a dramatic blackout. Amidst the chaos and darkness, the unthinkable occurred – Governor Marshall Inglewood (who did not know he was going to be the victim until 5 mins earlier) was murdered. Gasps filled the air, and uncertainty shrouded the room. With the blackout acting as a cover, the quest to solve the murder began. As the lights flickered back on, guests quickly composed themselves, aware that their every move could be scrutinized, and they could very well be falsely accused. This signaled the beginning of phase two of our captivating murder mystery game.
During this phase, guests were handed a second character sheet containing even more secrets and special instructions. Everyone was informed to remain calm and start searching for clues before the police arrived to take control of the party. With 14 clues hidden outside of plain sight, the guests started their search as they deftly navigated through a maze of whispers, innuendos, and half-truths, keenly observing their surroundings, and discreetly questioning other characters.
The laughter rolling through the night was contagious as the cast carried out their hilarious performances right to the end. Guests were amazed by the complex network of secrets and lies that had been revealed throughout the evening. The interactions between the characters created a captivating storyline to unfold.
In a startling turn of events, the culprit behind the murder of Governor Marshall Inglewood was eventually revealed to be Derek Nordhart, the character whose intentions were cleverly hidden in the shadows. With the assistance of his lover and skilled martial artist, Sarah Corrington, Derek’s true nature was exposed. He had arranged for his lover to swiftly deal with Inglewood by snapping his neck. The motive behind the murder was that Derek had a wicked plan to steal the legendary occult oddity, Hrafn’s Crown, a highly valuable and important artifact that he longed to have for himself but was acquired by Inglewood years before.
Before the evening was wrapped up, guests were handed voting sheets to choose who they thought was the best actor, best detective and best dressed character. There were also some bonus draws and all our lucky winners walked away with amazing prizes. As always, a huge thank you to our generous sponsors who so willingly sponsored the prizes for the evening.
Chatting with guests outside of character, we found that this Mardi Gras masquerade & murder mystery event had not only entertained them immensely but also resulted in new-found friendships and lasting memories. The evening showcased the strength of human connection, the thrill of discovery, and the satisfaction of a well-executed plot.
The invitation to the next murder mystery event, eagerly anticipated by all, would no doubt hold new secrets and engaging mysteries to unravel.
