Breakfast in Dullstroom
Breakfast in Dullstroom
The new year has sprung and with the Sociably team back in full force, we are eager and ready to share some more Lowveld experiences with you.
The holidays allowed plenty of time for exploring gems in the Lowveld and on one specific outing, we encountered something fluffy, topped with sweet and savory.
In the beautiful town of Dullstroom, there is a restaurant specializing in waffles. Here, we didn’t only find a symphony of syrup and squares but also a fluffy cloud with a savory soul. Friends, have you been for a waffle breakfast at Waffle & Co? If waffles tickle your fancy then this place is a must!
Arriving at Waffle & Co on a rainy December day, it was evident that this is a very popular Dullstroom destination, with all the tables full to the rim. Luckily we did not have to wait long for the wafflesplotion to quiet down and were seated within 10 minutes. Looking at the exterior of Waffle & Co, you easily mistake yourself for being somewhere close to the ocean with its big red tower resembling a lighthouse. Once you are inside, the interior will definitely catch your attention too! Adorned with quirky decor and whimsical touches, the space boasts posters of iconic South African characters like Piet Pompies, Tant Koek, and Hansie Slim, adding that loved local touch to the atmosphere.
The star of the show at Waffle & Co is, of course, the menu. The restaurant is renowned for its iconic sweet and savory waffles, some cleverly named after famous personalities such as Marilyn Monroe, Freddy Mercury, and even the Spice Girls. The creativity and playfulness of the menu make choosing a waffle an exciting and enjoyable experience.
Waffle options are both diverse and delectable. For those with a sweet tooth, the sweet waffle options are a delight. They offer a range of flavors, from classic favorites like chocolate and berries to more adventurous combinations including options like spicy apple, fried banana or homemade fudge to name a few. On the savory side, Waffle & Co doesn’t disappoint either. With options like bacon and maple syrup, smoked salmon and cream cheese, chicken livers, savory mince and spicy pulled pork, the savory waffles cater to a variety of tastes. The combination of the hearty waffle bases with the generous, flavorful toppings creates a truly satisfying experience.
If you can’t decide between sweet and savory, (or simply want to try a bit of everything), the option of having two different halves allows the best of both worlds. This flexibility ensured our enjoyment of some personalized waffle creations that satisfied all our cravings.
Waffle & Co has a tranquil garden with a charming little dollhouse and a jungle gym to keep the kids entertained. With very friendly and attentive service, this waffle haven creates the perfect outing for families and groups of friends. Whether you’re craving a sweet treat or a savory indulgence, this charming restaurant offers something for everyone and surely has the Sociably stamp of approval.
