Passion between the boulders

Dear Lowvelders,

January is well on its way and so is the Sociably team, eager to share the most recent Sociably Sleepover experience with you.

But before we do, who can remember the feature we did in October 2023 all about The Figtree House? The ultimate Lowveld treehouse hidden away deep in the Crocodile Gorge Conservancy and high up in the canopy of the forest. The very place where we got a glimpse of what it would be like to live life as Tarzan or Jane.

Well, with Valentines Day around the corner, we just had to add a romantic getaway to the Sociably sleepover bucket list, which is why we found ourselves back at The Figtree House. Only this time, we traded our braai tongs for champagne flutes as we made our way over to the Honeymoon Suite, fittingly dubbed Tussenklip (between rocks).

Unlike the treehouse, Tussenklip has been cleverly built in between massive boulders, making it feel like a secret hideaway. It consists of 3 levels with the entrance leading into an open plan living space and a balcony, revealing a panoramic view stretching as far as the eye can see. The lounge area is cozy with a woodburning stove for those cold winter nights while the kitchen is well-equipped with all basic cutlery and crockery, a bar fridge and a 2-plate gas stove. The addition of a Weber gas grill on the balcony ensures that you and your partner can cook some wholesome meals throughout your romantic stay.

Your privacy increases when you take the set of wooden stairs one level down into the bedroom. Walls disappear with retractable glass panels, letting the wild symphony of the bushveld serenade your evenings. With the granite boulders towering well overhead, the only intruders you will find are the odd vervet monkey, small antelope and a world of birdlife. The bedroom is beautifully designed with the bed looking out onto the boulders. Imagine waking up to streams of sunlight filtering through the cracks in the boulders and nature calling to you emerge from your slumber.

As if this is not romantic enough, the bedroom balcony has a set of stairs leading down to the lowest level containing an open-air jetted bathtub. Here you will truly get a taste of the suite’s seclusion as you soak in the bath for hours in between granite giants, perhaps stargazing, completely enveloped by the sounds of the Lowveld bush nightlife.

If you have not noticed yet, Sociably loves off-grid stays, which is another reason why we love this romantic gem. Tussenklip’s off-grid design seamlessly blends extravagance with sustainability. Solar panels and gas appliances keep the lights on and bellies full. Unplugged entertainment like board games encourage couples to connect with each other and the wild symphony outside of their granite haven. Tussenklip isn’t just a honeymoon suite, it’s an experience. It’s a place where luxury meets adventure, romance dances with nature, and every corner whispers a secret love story just waiting to be written.

We love the romantic gems of the Lowveld ♥
